Cartagena (Cartagena of the Andes)

The "pearl of the Caribbean" deserves this poetic nickname, and its tropical atmosphere seduces all visitors. UNESCO World Heritage Site, Cartagena of the Andes is the tourist capital of Colombia thanks to its beaches, festivals and gastronomy.

This architectural gem will be your starting point for the islands and a must stop on your trip. Old colonial city, it reigns in Cartagena an atmosphere worthy of the Havana of the 40s. Its historic center (Ciudad Antigua) makes its reputation and will remind you of the narrow alleys of Dubrovnik. The yachting activities are in full development and your yacht to rent awaits you at the Club nautico de Cartagena, a modern and clean marina 20 minutes by taxi from the city center.

Islas del Rosario

Located a few miles from the coast, the Rosario Islands are an archipelago composed of 28 islands covering an area of 20 hectares.

This area has been declared National Nature Park to protect one of the most important coral reefs of the Colombian Caribbean. The presence of coral reefs makes these islands a paradise for diving but also imposes a good sailing experience. The largest island (Isla Grande) can thus be fully traveled by boat provided it has a shallow draft and a great knowledge of this area.

The sunset is incomparable on the north coast of the island which also has charming hotels. You will spend the night in the pretty Bay of Cholon on the Baru Peninsula, place of passage of the world tour sailors navigating towards the Panama Canal.

Weather

The weather is generally very mild throughout the navigation area. The air temperature is stable at around 30° while that of the sea is between 26 and 28 degrees during the months when the trade winds blow from November to April and can rise up to 30 degrees in September-October. The wind usually blows from the south in the morning and from the north in the afternoon at speeds of 10 to 15 knots. During the trade winds (November to April), the wind usually blows around 25 knots.

Only danger, the local phenomenon called "Culo de Pollo" which is a mini tropical storm accompanied by intense rain and strong winds up to 50 knots. Apart from this extremely rare phenomenon that passes very quickly and is detected by observing the sky carefully, the Caribbean coast of Colombia is an ideal navigation area where it is possible to navigate all year long enjoying good winds and a climate very pleasant.

San Bernardo Island archipel

Just 20 miles from the Rosario Islands lies the archipelago of the San Bernardo Islands, a lost paradise still spared by mass tourism despite the presence of a few hotels.

Here nature is exceptional and the lagoons form countless passages between the coral reefs. The inextricable mangrove Tintinpan will amaze you and you will live an unforgettable experience by diving in the middle of the plankton at nightfall in the famous "Laguna encantada" (the enchanted lagoon).

Another particularity of the archipelago, the famous "Casa en el aqua", are houses built literally on the water. However, be careful not to get wet around the main Casa in the west of the island and now transformed into a permanent disco for "gringos".

A little further south is El Islote, a tiny village of 10,000 m2 where live more than 1'400 inhabitants who will be delighted to help you discover their island. It has several natural aquariums where you can admire sharks, turtles, lobsters and other fish of the region. With 1.25 inhabitants for every 10m2, El Islote is the most densely populated island in the world. The island is also fully energy independent thanks to the installation of a solar power station offered by the Japanese government and allowing the island to have energy 24 hours a day.
