Private cruise to the best wingfoil / kitesurf spots

Passionate about wingfoil and kitesurfing, the Voile Evasion crew will take you to discover the most beautiful wing / kite spots during a cruise on a rental catamaran. Don't hesitate to contact Cyril, skipper and wingfoil instructor, if you have any questions about our wingfoil / kitesurf cruises in the Mediterranean or the Grenadines.

Greece - take a wingfoil & kitesurf cruise in the cylades and enjoy the Meltem!

For us, the Cyclades (Greece) are a paradise for wingfoil and kitesurfing in the Mediterranean Sea, with the guarantee of steady winds thanks to the Meltem wind, which blows almost every day from May to September (June to August at its strongest).

Greece - incredible wing/kite spots just 3 hours from Switzerland

To take advantage of the Meltem that regularly blows from the north in the Cyclades, we recommend a departure from Athens / Lavrion. This will enable you to set course for the surrounding islands of Kythnos and Serifos, with the aim of quickly reaching Antiparos, Paros and Naxos, the wingfoil and kite Mecca of Greece.

You'll then take on a dream itinerary of wingfoil / kitesurfing sessions on incredible sports, turquoise anchorages and visits to charming, bucolic islands.

Embarking on a week of sporty sailing, you'll combine sailing with daily wingfoil or kitesurfing sessions on the most beautiful spots in the Aegean Sea. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced sailor, these cruises offer a unique, supervised adventure for all levels, in breathtaking natural surroundings.

Wingfoil / kitesurf cruise: northern Sardinia and southern Corsica from Olbia

Departing from the Portisco marina near Olbia, we can sail in all conditions, even if the mistral is blowing hard in the Bouches de Bonifacio. Olbia airport is also easily accessible from Switzerland and France. From Portisco, there are numerous sailing possibilities, but our preference is to head up the coast (Porto Cervo, Maddalena) to Porto Pollo, the world-famous kite/wingfoil spot. On the way to Corsica and the Bouches de Bonifacio, a stopover is essential to discover the incredible Lavezzi islands, renowned for their sandy beaches and emblematic pebbles. Further north, the Piantarella anchorage (see Corsica video below) is a must-see and, wind permitting, will allow you to sail on turquoise water amidst anchored sailboats and catamarans. Along the coast in the direction of Ajaccio, numerous kite and wingfoil spots await you, along with excellent schools. Of course, it's impossible to set foot in Corsica without spending a night in the port of Bonifacio, enjoying its delicious restaurants and famous bars and nightclubs.

And finally, here's a short kitesurfing video shot in the kitesurfing mecca of Porto Pollo in northern Sardinia.

The wind conditions at this spot are often optimal, and the anchorage allows us to park our catamaran just a few minutes from the beach.

Sicily - Egadi islands and Marsala lagoon

Sicily is close to home, and even if the wind conditions aren't as established as in the Grenadines (see above), we can still organize magnificent kite / wingfoil trips aboard a comfortable catamaran.

With over 7,000 miles of sailing under his belt, including 6 months' sabbatical in the Mediterranean, Cyril will take you to Sicily and the Egadi islands, where the wind cannot be guaranteed, but where the chances of kitesurfing or wingfoiling are great.

Sicily - beautiful wing/kite spots close to home

After taking possession of your catamaran at Trapani Marina, set off to discover the Egadi islands, starting your journey at the incredible Cala Rossa anchorage on the island of Favignana. What could be better than to sail between the sailing boats at anchor on turquoise water, have a drink and watch the sunset at the Robertino bar. The next day promises to be calm, so set course for Marsala and enjoy the famous thermal of the Lo Stagnone lagoon. This European kitesurfing mecca boasts an exceptional climate and state-of-the-art equipment. It's also possible to rent small wingfoils to take advantage of the lagoon's shallow waters.

If the wind picks up on the following days, head for Favignana and Levanzo, or even Marettimo if the weather permits. We even tested a downwind from Favignana to the lo Stagnone lagoon (for good riders only), and the experience was well worth it.

The Grenadines... the ideal destination for wing / kitesurf cruises.

With turquoise seas warm all year round, trade winds blowing regularly every day and seabeds to make even the most famous divers pale in comparison, the Grenadines are a kitesurfing and wingfoiling paradise for us. Our sailboat and catamaran rental bases are ideally located in St-Vincent or Grenada, so you don't have to sail all the way from Martinique.

After a refresher course at Jeremie Tronet's JT Pro Center in Union, or an on-shore or off-shore sail at Frigate Island (Union), head up to Tobago Cays to sail among the turtles and stingrays from Jamesby beach, perfectly positioned for take-off. Then head downwind to Mayreau to admire the beach famous for its palm trees plunging into the sea. Then discover Sandy Island on Carriacou, Morpion or Petite Martinique to perfect your tricks in this kite and wingfoil paradise. All these small islands, surrounded by turquoise waters and a protective coral reef, open the doors to an extraordinary underwater paradise, where you'll spot numerous turtles, rays, sharks and other typical warm-water fish.

The most beautiful kite spots in the Grenadines include the following (click on the map below for more details):

  • Union :

    • the famous JT Pro Center (on-shore spot) created by French kitesurfing champion Jeremie Tronet (kite school, ideal freestyle flat water spot). Minimum level required on the spot: go upwind without any problem or... take lessons!

    • Frigate Island a little further south: two kiting possibilities (on-shore or off-shore), the two spots separated by a narrow sand spit. Ideal spot for all levels. You can anchor your sailboat/catamaran on Frigate Island's leeward offshore spot (excellent protection).

  • Tobago Cays: a nature reserve famous for the quality of its underwater fauna. Here you'll be kiting above turtles, rays, sharks and other exotic fish typical of the Caribbean Sea. Anchor your yacht behind Baradal or Petit-Rameau, well sheltered behind the coral reef, and take off from the perfectly oriented Jamesby beach. From Tobago Cays, a downwind to Mayreau or Union is possible, as well as a nice trip to Petit-Tabac via a great surf spot on the barrier reef east of Baradal.

  • Mayreau: on-shore spot east of Salt Whistle Bay. Long white sandy beach ideal for take-off.

  • Carriacou: anchor your sailboat south of Sandy Island, a magnificent stretch of white sand where the wind comes in side-shore and makes for great sailing.

  • Petite-Martinique, Petit St-Vincent and Morpion: don't miss the famous tiny Morpion Island with its unique parasol. You can anchor your sailboat right next to it and launch your best tricks over the island (see video above). The anchorage in the lagoon to the east of Petit St-Vincent is also magnificent, although beware of the hotel guards who might be tempted to forbid you to take off from the beach.

  • Palm Island: private island with limited access.

  • Canouan: anchorage in Grand Bay on the leeward side of the island, with access on foot to the lagoon on the windward east coast (Windward Bay). Kitesurfing may be forbidden, but we went there one afternoon without meeting anyone, and the spot is quite nice.

Important: don't forget to bring your shoes to avoid injury from coral or sea urchins... !!

7-day itinerary from St-Vincent

  • Blue Lagoon (St-Vincent) - Bequia - Mayreau - Tobago Cays - Union -  Petit St-Vincent - Morpion -  Blue Lagoon (St-Vincent) = 100 MN (7 jours)

7-day itinerary from Granada

  • St-Georges (Grenade) - Carriacou (Sandy Island) - Morpion - Union - Tobago Cays - Mayreau - St-Georges (Grenade) = 100 MN (7 jours)

Please note: the suggested itineraries are based on sailing for 1 to 2 hours a day at an average speed of 5 knots. If you're looking for other itinerary ideas or have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us. We'll be happy to help you plan your cruise.

Ports of departure

The departure bases of St-Vincent and Grenada are ideal for taking possession of your charter sailboat or catamaran and setting off on your kite / wing cruise in the Grenadines. Beware, however, as several organizations offer departures from Martinique. Flights from Switzerland are indeed cheaper, but it will take you 24 hours of non-stop sailing to reach Union from Le Marin (Martinique). We recommend flying to St-Vincent or Grenada. After a one-day trip from France or Switzerland, you'll be just a few hours' sailing from the Grenadines.

Wind

In the West Indies, the dry season runs from December to April and the wet season from May to November. The trade winds blow steadily from east to west from December to April, then less steadily until July-August. The ideal time to kite or wingfoil in the Grenadines is from December to June. The wind is strong and constant from December to April, but the spots are relatively crowded. January and February can even be very windy. From April to June, the trade winds blow steadily but less strongly, and there are far fewer crowds, making wingfoil and kitesurfing a pleasure. The cyclonic period from September to November is to be avoided and is of little interest due to the high risk of cyclones and the lack of wind.
